With the last sunset of the year just hours away we have taken a quick look back at some of the most significant costumes of 2012. Similar to how Time magazine selects their ‘person of the year’ award, we have chosen a costume above all others that ‘for better of for worse’ has most impacted society and popular culture over the last twelve months.
The YouTube video for the wildly catchy South Korean tune Gangnam Style by music artist Park Jae-sang, better known as ‘PSY’, has racked up well over a billion views in the six months Read More…

Remember the good old days when you could sit down for some innocent uncomplicated fun with your favourite cartoons? Well unfortunately I’m here to ruin that for you. It turns out that some of those good old-fashioned innocent cartoons really weren’t. From smoking to propaganda, some of your most cherished childhood characters have all had their darker moments.

I realise that these characters are fictional and the world in which they live may work to slightly different rules than ours, but really, are you sure they aren’t secretly on drugs? From wide ranging personality problems to some really trippy personal experiences, these characters all seem to have the tell-tale warning signs that signal a drug problem.

It takes a lot of work to make a movie, getting every tiny detail just right can be painstaking. Surprisingly in the midst of all the computer effects and costume design one piece of extraordinary work is often taken for granted. Some people may not notice well executed sound effects but believe me you’d notice it’s absence if they didn’t bother. Everything from everyday walking to the noises of fictional animals has to be recorded and added to the film. But more intriguingly, the way they go about making some of these sounds can be truly bizarre.

It almost seems impossible these days that anything to do with comic book heroes could turn out badly, the latest films are all box office hits, the characters have become mainstream icons and it seams that both actors and directors really get what they’re all about.
Unfortunately that’s not always the case, and nowhere are the problems of translating the fictional world of comics more evident than in the often poorly thought out live action TV shows.

Dan Castellaneta is probably best known for his work on The Simpson’s voicing a wide array of characters and the most famous of them all, Homer Simpson. What some of you may not realise is that he’s had a string of prominent roles outside of The Simpsons, in shows both incredibly popular and even one notoriously bad one.

Off in the amazing realms of science fiction it’s a tough old place, there’s always some kind or doom lurking around the corner for mankind, be it killer robots, aliens or crazy totalitarian governments. In these worlds, it’s people of action and intellect that save the day and unlike most brainless action flicks of the ‘80s, it’s not all muscle bound giants who look like a shed full of steaks taped to a Humvee.
Some of the most badass characters in science fiction are women and in this list we sort through the toughest of the tough.

We all know that most wrestling just isn’t real, it’s more like a soap opera for men than it is a real sport these days. With larger than life characters, crazy feuds and a whole host of big guys throwing each other around it’s not surprising that sometimes things get a little carried away… No I’m not talking violence or injuries. I talking about costumes! Some wrestlers feel the need to wear outfits louder than the cheering/booing crowds and here’s a selection of the most ludicrous.
This is not practical sportswear.

Some actors are defined by their roles, the characters, the costumes, the face and persona of someone so radically different from their day-to-day selves. These are a few of the actors behind some extreme and memorable characters.

Jamie Renée Smith – Dante’s Peek
You may or may not remember her as one of the plucky kids that rather inexplicably survived in the ‘so bad it’s good’ film, Dante’s Peak. You know, the typically ludicrous 90s disaster movie that has James Bond trying to outrun a mountain while the locals (and the script) laugh at science like it’s a bad joke.
She was a pretty prolific child actor back in the ‘90s because we needed kids on film to be gawky and slightly annoying. It’s amazing then seeing how much she’s changed over the years, not only has she grown to be pretty hot but some of her recent roles are in some pretty sexy shows too including True Blood the more recent Sleeping Around.
