Fancy Dress Ideas: The Diamond Jubilee

Posted: March 18th, 2012 | Author: |

As well as the London Olympics, 2012 is also the year of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II and thus the nation is set for a packed calendar of celebratory events; the centrepieces of which will be the Big Jubilee Lunches to be held in communities nationwide on Saturday 3rd June and the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the same day. On this momentous day the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will cruise the Thames in a specially constructed royal barge at the head of a fantastic flotilla of 1,000 vessels from the UK, The Commonwealth and around the world.

Furthermore, on Sunday 4th June the BBC Concert at Buckingham Palace promises a memorable programme of music and in the evening a network of 2012 beacons will be lit across the nation and throughout the Commonwealth to mark this historic occasion. Of course, as The Queen is Head of State of 15 Commonwealth Realms as well as the UK, in 2012 each of these culturally diverse nations will be visited by a member of the royal family.

Whether you are lucky enough to be attending any of the official events celebrating the Diamond Jubilee or are organising your own community or family celebration, this is the perfect opportunity to pin your red, white and blue colours to the mast in fabulous fancy dress style. For example, you’ll love to dress in a bold and humorous Union Jack suit costume complete with a jacket and trousers resplendent with multiple Union flags and you can accessorise with a bright Union Jack bowtie and a Union Jack top hat to complete this patriotic ensemble.

Alternatively, ladies who want to simultaneously express their girl power and their patriotism can don an iconic Ginger Spice-style Union Jack mini dress which has a full Union flag emblazoned across the front and back and can be complimented with a red headband and a sexy pair of knee high stiletto boots.

However, if you have a great sense of humour and want to make a unique contribution to this special celebration, then you can dress as the Union Jack itself in a skin tight Union Jack 2nd skin. This skin tight all-in-one lycra bodysuit is terrifically tactile, has an integrated bum bag for all of your essentials and will make you look and feel proud as punch to be British.

If you want to simply and more subtly accessorise your own party clothes, then you can opt for other patriotic items such as a Union Jack waistcoat, Union Jack contact lenses, a Union Jack funky Afro wig, a Union Jack Bandanna or long, sleek and glamorous Union Jack ladies wig.

In this unique year of national celebrations, ensure that you have the time of your life by expressing the unity and rich cultural diversity of Great Britain with a creative, colourful and potently patriotic fancy dress costume!
